Groom Wedding Speech Tips

groomspeechIt seems like it was just yesterday that I gave my groom wedding speech. It was not the most complicated task due to the fact I had taken several public speaking class in college.  If you are like most people, you probably have a fear of speaking in public. Trust me, if you plan correctly, giving a groom speech is 10 times easier than public speaking.  I just treated the grooms speech like a casual talk.

I definitely was not trying to impress anyone. as long as I stayed away from dull and boring subject matter, I knew I could captivate my audience. Regardless, for some people delivering a groom wedding speech is a big headache for them because they are usually not confident about speaking in public.

If you do your planning well in advance, the groom toast is just like talking with your friends at a party. Maybe you are a lousy speaker.   What  if all your jokes are corny and people laugh at you because you sounded stupid?  Don’t sweat it, because you can be any of these and still give a great groom wedding speech.  Don’t it give a second thought because you are sharing your deepest thoughts and not giving a performance.

If you need help with wedding speech ideas, it’s good to plan ahead and do some online searches at wedding planning sites.  Just Google “wedding planning” or “grooms speeches”.  This should give you a lot of ideas for your wedding speech.

If you try to fake anything are going to flop.  Just be yourself and act normal. Your fiance  found something attractive about you (I hope!).  Zero in on your best qualities.  I bet you are wondering whats the big secret is if you don’t have to be charming or or give a funny groom speech. Hold breath and count to ten. Planning ahead is the key. This will guarantee success at your wedding reception.

How To Write A Bride And Groom Wedding Speech

The easiest way to write a bride and groom wedding speech is to write each speech separately.  This is no joke.  Sure, the two of you can be together when you give your groom wedding speech, but it’s a rare couple who pull off giving their speech together because you may end up interrupting each other at important moments.  Your wedding speech is supposed to be a monolog with some occasional laughing when you crack a joke.

How To Pull Off Giving A Bride And Groom Speech Together

This is not going to be a contradiction to what I said above.  You still are going to be speaking separately.  To pull this off successfully, you will need to hand the microphone back and forth to each other during speech segments without interrupting each other.  For example, the groom could start the speech out by thanking the parents and giving the usual pleasantries.  The bride could explain how the two of you met.  As long as you each speak separately as you stand together, it will work perfect.

The bottom line is that this is going to be your wedding.  If you really want to give a bride and groom speech together, then go for it.  It’s going to be great starting point for the two of you to start learning to work together as one.

Finish the wedding speech with a toast to each other followed by a nice smooch.  Sometimes it pays to be different.  If you plan this route, give it a few practice runs like at the rehearsal dinner or over a family meal.

Don’t go over board planning and searching the Internet on how to write a bride and groom wedding speech.  The best and most memorable speech is going to one that you created together.  Sure, a wedding speech guide or template will give you a jump start as long as most of the ideas are your own.  Do not fall prey to having a professional speech writer do the work for you.  It may look great on paper and will cost you a fortune.  However, I can almost guarantee you that a professionally crafted wedding speech will go over as well as a glass of flat champagne.

I read a few online speech ideas and I started to write down where I met my fiance and how we started dating.  Other ideas included some of our most memorable and embarrassing times together.  Putting our story to words really clarified everything.

Initially, I did not have any specific order to my writing since it was just random thoughts.  I was not trying to write an award winning anecdotes or wedding speech jokes.  My goal was to put together my groom wedding speech.
